Davidp: "We feel ready to compete; the team worked with great efficiency"

We caught up with David "Davidp" Prins of 3DMAX to learn more about the French team ahead of the Europe Minor.

3DMAX are one of the eight teams that will compete at the Europe Minor taking place on July 19-22. The event in London, United Kingdom will offer $50,000 and two spots at the FACEIT Major New Challengers Stage.

Davidp will attend his second Minor

Davidp & company will go up against OpTic in their first match in Group A which also features ENCE and LeftOut. We interviewed Davidp about the team's creation, joining 3DMAX, their prospects at the Minor, and more:

Before we get into the game, let's talk a little bit about the 3DMAX organization. They have made their return to the CS scene by picking you up when you were playing under the NOBO banner. Has this improved the squad's situation and, if it did, in what ways?

We are super glad to revive this great tag; many good teams played under that banner. Even though we already had a good mindset and hunger to step up and evolve, we can now focus without thinking about money matters and we can give it all. Might be helpful in the long run.

You have qualified for the Europe Minor with best-of-three wins against NiP, Japaleno, and Windigo. What were the factors in your success in the closed qualifier that got you to the Minor?

First, we felt blessed to be able to replace tomorrow.gg, unfortunately we knew that we had to play it with a stand-in since Adlane (Adlane "Adlane" Mokrani) was on vacation. In that context we just took it easily and played those games without any pressure or expectations. I believe it helped us build great confidence throughout the qualifier and take those wins.

What can you tell us about the creation of the team? Did you expect to be this successful right away?

We've seen a great core of French players emerging during the last year under dizLown. Even though people couldn't see them on HLTV that much, they were attending many French LANs, winning them all. They qualified for the MDL season as well all by themselves. Props to alex_, CREA^, and Adlane. They felt it was time to push forward and contacted me to get further. After some good trials, we just made it happen. We expected to do well and to have potential, but we didn't know that we would improve so fast.

After playing the closed qualifier with alex_ as a stand-in, JaCkz joined your roster. What were the reasons for his addition and how do you think this will affect the team ahead of the Minor? What does he bring to the team?

As you know we weren't supposed to play the Minor closed qualifier but instead play the ENC French Finals on LA . Since Adlane wasn't available that week, alex_ kindly accepted to replace him. In the meantime, Adlane told us he might not be able to continue with us. So a week before the closed qualifier we already had some talks with JaCkz. He gave us a go as soon as his duties with MAXISAUSSICE were done. After some talks, the team decided to bet on the long run and recruited JaCkz straight away. He's got experience, strong firepower and fits really well in the system the team would like to use. Moreover, he is known for uplifting the spirit of a group which is always a good thing.

Having had approximately half a month to prepare for the Minor, do you feel ready? How did your team spend that time? Did you have a bootcamp?

We feel ready to compete, the team worked with great efficiency. We began our work online with some basics, some MDL matches, we and had the chance to use the EnVyUs facilities in London to get into deeper things. Big thanks to Hastro, Next, Neoskai and maLeK for making it happen.

Your group at the Minor consists of ENCE, LeftOut and OpTic, with the Danes being your first opponent. What is your opinion about these teams?

We've got a really tough group, we obviously stand as the underdog here. We worked hard and I expect us to do well in our group nonetheless.

The opening and winners' matches are best-of-ones while the elimination and deciders are best-of-threes. Do you think your map pool is deep enough to handle a best-of-three game on LAN or is winning your first two matches your best chance to advance to the playoffs?

Two best-of-ones are the easy way but we are ready to take on anyone in a best-of-three.

Obviously every team's goal at this Minor is to place in the top two and qualify for the Major. Other than that, what would you like to achieve at this tournament? Have you set different goals for this event?

As you said everybody aims for those two spots and we don't aim for less than that, we would like and will do everything to beat those kinds of teams and show what we are made of. Full focus, fast win!

Looking ahead, do you have any upcoming LAN tournaments? Where would you like to end up in the ESEA MDL Season 28 Europe where you currently have ten wins and five loss. Do you have your eyes on getting into the top 30 in the HLTV World ranking?

We do not have any LAN tournaments lined up yet, but we would like to qualify for as many big events as possible. Our MDL goal was to finish in the top eight this season. We have achieved that and we will try to earn an EPL spot next season. It's always nice to see your name in the HLTV World Ranking but top 30's anecdotic.
